This intensive sixteen week course allows the student to earn a Medical Billing and Coding certificate. This program will provide students with the skills necessary to obtain entry-level employment as medical coders, coding specialists, and medical billing specialists. Program graduates will meet eligibility requirements to sit for the American Health Information Management Association’s (AHIMA) Certified Coding Assistant (CCA) credential. Pharmacy Technician Online Training (MGT 830)
Joliet Junior College partners with Gatlin Education to offer this on-line course. This program will prepare the student to obtain employment as a pharmacy technician in a variety of pharmaceutical settings while under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Some of the areas covered are: pharmacy law and ethics, drug inventory and storage, abbreviations, pharmaceutical calculations, label preparation, anatomy and physiology, insurance procedures, basic chemistry of drug molecules, and customer service skills. Graduates are prepared to sit for the National Certification Examination, which is administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Dental Assisting Program (MGT 818)
The 60 hour Dental Assisting Program prepares students for entry level positions in one of the fastest growing health care positions – Dental Assisting. The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with all areas of pre-clinical dental assisting and provide training in the professional skills required to function as and assistant in the dental practice. This course covers the following key areas and topics – Administrative Aspects include: the history of dentistry and dental assisting; introduction to the dental office; the legal aspects of dentistry; policies and guidelines. Clinical Aspects include: introduction to oral anatomy; dental operatory; dental equipment, introduction to tooth structure; primary and permanent teeth; the oral cavity and related structures; proper patient positioning; dental hand-pieces; sterilization; and other areas. In addition to entry-level administrative jobs, this course is ideal for students interested in pursuing a future formal Dental Hygienist program. Physical Therapy Aide Program (MGT 819)
This comprehensive 50-hour Physical Therapy Aide Program prepares students for the growing field of Physical Therapy. The Physical Therapy Aide is generally responsible for carrying out the non-technical duties of physical therapy, such as preparing treatment areas, ordering devices and supplies, and transporting patients working under the direction of the physical therapist. Furthermore, these workers assist physical therapists in providing services that help improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or disease. Physical Therapy Aides may be employed in nursing homes, hospitals, sports rehabilitation center and some orthopedic clinics. Note: This program does not include a national or state certification as part of its overall objectives. Textbook included in class fee.
Dialysis Technician Program (MGT 820)
This 50-hour Dialysis Technician Program provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to perform both the duties required of Dialysis Technicians. Under the supervision of physicians and registered nurses, Dialysis Technicians operate kidney dialysis machines, prepare dialyzer reprocessing and delivery systems as well as maintain and repair equipment. Furthermore, technicians work with patients during dialysis procedures and monitor and record vital signs as well as administer local anesthetics and drugs as needed. Dialysis Technicians must also assess patients for any complications that occur during the procedure and must be ready to take necessary emergency measures including administering oxygen or performing Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. Additionally, they may also be involved in the training of patients for at-home dialysis treatment and providing them with the emotional support they need for self-care. Note: This program does not include a national or state certification as part of its overall objectives. Additionally there is no student internship or clinical rotation offered as part of this program. Textbook included in class fee.
Personal Fitness Trainer Online Instruction (MGT 831)

This interactive program was developed by industry experts, internship affiliates, national organizations, and the Educational Fitness Solutions Inc., and their board of advisors. Learn how to apply the client’s health history, goals, and abilities integrating exercise science curriculum and practical training techniques into a systematic model that teaches students to progress their clients through different training levels and phases. The program prepares the student to sit for the American Council on Exercise® (ACE) Personal Training Certification Exam. Topics include exercise science, kinesiology and biomechanics. Learn to conduct health and fitness tests, analyze exercise movements and develop exercise prescriptions. Pharmacy Technician Certification Program (MGT 5170)
This program will prepare the student for an entry-level pharmacy technician position in a wide variety of settings such as retail, hospital, and managed health care facilities. Pharmacy Technicians report directly to a licensed pharmacist and perform many pharmacy-related functions such as entering prescriptions into a computer, verifying prescriptions, ordering medication, and preparing medication inventories. Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board examination.
Sleep Laboratory Technician Training
Polysomnography is the study of an individual's sleep. Millions of Americans suffer from sleep disorders. Over 80 types of sleep disorders are recognized by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). Diagnosis may require an overnight stay in a sleep disorder clinic while being monitored by a polysomnography technician ("sleep technician"). The sleep technician applies sensors to the patient's scalp, face, neck, legs and body and monitors their physiologic parameters of sleep. Growth in the number of sleep laboratories supports an increasing demand for trained professionals. From three accredited labs in 1975, this industry has grown to 990 AASM accredited labs in 2006.
Fundamentals in Polysomnography (MGT 440)
The program is designed to provide a solid foundation for the sleep technician. Whether new to the field or arriving with experience, the tools gained from this program will help to cultivate an understanding and appreciation for the importance of sleep data collection and analysis process. Develop the skills to collect a quality sleep study with an introduction to polysomnography scoring procedures. Topics include abnormal sleep patterns, collecting an EEG signal, sleep staging, respiratory events, and medications.
