AutoCAD
If you work with AutoCAD on a daily basis, you are aware of the awesome potential that this software program
contains. To help you attain the maximum utility out of this powerful tool, Joliet Junior College is presenting
a series of seminars designed to enhance the skills of the AutoCAD user so they can design more accurate projects
in less time. These workshops are designed for CAD operators who have a basic understanding of the AutoCAD
software package and have at least one year of experience in industry.
AutoCAD for Business (GRAF 1025)
This five week seminar will discuss how to integrate Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with AutoCAD while establishing
object embedded linkage. Learn to export graphics in various formats to Microsoft applications and then
incorporate them with AutoCAD. Evaluate several AutoCad internet viewers. Prepare drawings for the internet using
DWF, E-Plotting and AutoCAD'S new Design Publisher. Photo simulation techniques are explored using AutoCAD's
Dview function in conjunction with Paint Shop Pro. Proposal writers, designers, and graphic illustrators will
find this workshop very useful.
AutoCAD Productivity Techniques: Tips and Tricks (GRAF 1024)
Design draftsmen, engineers, and CAD supervisors will learn many valuable tips and shortcuts that will increase
their AutoCAD productivity. Identify useful tracking features such as Polar, Object, Temporary, and AutoTracking.
Discuss the use of the extension and parallel object snaps, entity cycling, control elements, and context menus.
Learn to use drafting shortcuts, auxiliary snap systems and the geometric calculator. Examine electronic scaling
techniques for multiple scale factors when used on the same drawing. Assess dimensioning commands, special text
characters, and raster image proportion techniques. Review CAD Standards checking, Design Center, Sheet Set
Manager, and various tool palettes.
Scaling Electronic Drawings (GRAF 1027)
Learn to create accurately scaled AutoCAD drawings. Review mathematical methods for calculating the electronic
scale factor. Develop drawings with a variety of scale factors on the same sheet. Understand AutoCAD's dimension
variable settings and the appropriate override commands. Produce drawings with multiple scale factors. Review
proportional scaling techniques and how to work with scanned raster images.
Developing Isometric Drawings (GRAF 1028)
Learn to utilize the ANSI standard blue lines, text styles, arrowheads, and dimension styles for isometric
drawings. Execute AutoCAD's TRotate and Oblique commands to achieve proper dimension appearance. Discuss
AutoCAD's NURBS technology. Develop techniques used to create cylindrical shapes. Create piping isometric
drawings that are fully documented and dimensioned in true isometric planes.
Advanced Plotting Automation (GRAF 1026
This workshop will demonstrate how to automate your plotting requirements. Review the four most popular methods
of design drawing production plot automation. Discuss AutoCAD plotting techniques involving color dependent
tables, style dependent tables, and layer dependent methods. Develop plotting model parameter files and
printer/plotter configuration files in conjunction with your company's standards and hardware hard-clip
limits.
R2004, R2005, and R2006 Update Training (GRAF 1029)
This one day seminar will show you how to use the new design tools and automation features in the latest
version of AutoCAD. Learn to utilize AutoCAD's new enhanced tool palette features, workspaces, and sheet
set manager. Increase productivity with the new dynamic blocks, in-place text editor, and advanced attribute
extraction tables. CAD standards checker provides a real-time standards compliance check that provides error
notification and repair features. Discuss new and revised command sets. This presentation can be customized to
your company's unique applications.
Introduction to AutoCAD (GRAF 1031)
This 16-hour, hands-on class provides an introduction to the Computer Aided Design Drafting (CADD) industry.
Learn the procedures for setting up and developing two dimensional AutoCAD drawings. Focus on coordinating
input systems, basic drafting, editing, and detailing methods. Discuss scaling, annotation, and dimensioning.
Determine the responsibilities of a CADD designer in today's industrial and architectural environments. The
class is limited to 14 students. Prerequisites: Basic understanding of computers with Windows 2000/XP operating
system. Knowledge of blue prints and drafting is not required but helpful.
Introduction to AutoDesk Inventor (GRAF 1032)
This 16-hour seminar is an introduction to the Autodesk Inventor 3D solid modeling software. Learn to set up and
develop 3D models/assemblies and 2D dimensional Inventor drawings. Discuss creating, editing and constraining
sketches, converting sketches to solids and editing your models. Focus on creating assemblies, animations, and
detailing methods. See why Inventor is the #1 selling 3D manufacturing design software on the market today. The
class is limited to 14 students. Prerequisites: Basic understanding of computers with Windows 2000/XP operating
system. Knowledge of blue prints and drafting is not required but helpful.
AutoCAD R2007 Update Training (GRAF 1034)
This one day seminar utilizes lecture, demonstration, and hands-on instruction to explain how to take advantage
of AutoCAD's new Interface tools for temporary overrides, sub-object selecting, visual styles, context menus,
and other environment changes. All new features design for more efficient use of 2D drafting skills are covered
and AutoCAD's new 3D feature set including 3D walkthroughs, cameras, and orbiting are examined. This is a
comprehensive training seminar covering all new features in release 2007.
Basic Computer Skills
Joliet Junior College offers a series of seminars in the most utilized Microsoft software applications,
Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. The workshops are organized by skill levels so you can start at your own
level. There are no prerequisites. Each class includes a work book in the class fees. Convenient one day or
evening class formats are available. These classes are held in a computer lab setting to give the student the
hands-on experience. The classes are scheduled throughout the year at various Joliet Junior College campuses.
Computer Graphics
If you are interested in starting a career in computer graphics and would like to know more about the software
programs then these short, concise seminars are for you. If your current job requires you to do some computer
graphics work, these workshops will increase your understanding of the software so you can utilize the program's
full capabilities. These classes present the basics and then build up to the more advanced techniques. Software
classes take place in a computer lab setting while doing hands-on exercises.
The Fundamental Elements of Graphic Design (GRAF 1001)
Discuss the basic tools used by designers to communicate ideas. Learn to use white space, type, page balance,
contrast proportion, pictures, and color to express written messages. You will develop skills in visualizing
design solutions through simple sketches and be able to translate those concepts into your fliers, brochures,
and newsletters.
Fundamentals of Illustrator (GRAF 1004)
Learn the basics of creating vector-based images. Develop skills to use the pen tool to create Bezier curves
and straight lines that combine to produce elegant shapes and images. You will also learn to apply color and
use the gradient and blend tools. Create artwork that can maintain its quality and sharpness at any reproduction
size.
Fundamentals of Photoshop (GRAF 1006)
You will be introduced to the most powerful image manipulation program in the industry. Learn to adjust images
by using levels and curves. Discuss the use of layers, applying filters and the relationship of pixels-per-inch
and image quality. Create stunning images, improve poor images, and digitally prepare photographs for commercial
printing.
Advanced Techniques in Photoshop (GRAF 1007)
This class will take you past the basics of Photoshop and into the world of color correction, layer masks,
paths, filters, and channels. Learn how to set the options for all the tools and precision selection techniques.
Students are expected to be proficient in the basic techniques of Photoshop tools. Workbook included.
Fundamentals in InDesign (GRAF 1009)
Get a quick overview of this relatively new page design software. Learn how to use InDesign's story editor,
nested style sheets, and information pallet. Improve your layouts with InDesign's image editing tools that let
you customize graphics with features like transparency and mixed ink color controls. Compare InDesign to
PageMaker and QuarkXPress.
Fundamentals of QuarkXPress (GRAF 1003)
QuarkXPress is the most popular layout program in the graphic arts industry. Learn how to create a variety of
documents through easy to follow demonstrations designed to prepare you to use Quark on your own. Topics include
setting up master pages, formatting text, creating style sheets, and applying color.
Microsoft Publisher (COMP 266)
Learn to use this popular desktop publishing program to create advertisement pieces, brochures, announcements,
or an e-scrapbook that look professional. Use customized formatting to combine your digital photographs with
text and clipart. Be able to design a page layout, install text frames, and use editing tools. Create multi-page
documents and master pages. Use templates, wizards, AutoShape, WordArt, and tables. Prepare your work for
commercial printing, web or e-mail applications. Class is held in a computer lab.
Flash Animation I (IDAY 711)
Flash enables you to integrate text, images, video, and audio into Web projects and create animations. Learn
how to import graphics, use the pencil tool to create your own artwork, apply color, and insert text blocks.
Topics include button symbols, utilizing movies clips, and the use of image layers. Use tweening techniques to
animate your drawings and images
Flash Animation II (IDAY 713)
Learn how to apply motion and shape tweening to your graphics to make them move across your monitor with the
smoothness of a Disney cartoon. Create buttons that activate sounds and movie clips and learn to edit your
animation for maximum impact. Topics include time lines, the ActionScript language, skins, styles and themes
for customizing, use of dynamic content, different methods to add sound, the use of samples and templates,
and preparing your work for the Web.
Digital Photography: How-to and Beyond (COMP 510)
This three evening course will introduce digital camera owners to the art and fun of digital photography. No
prior background of photography is necessary. Learn how the camera works and how to take pictures worth framing.
You will also work with Photoshop Elements to achieve better color and special effects.
Geographic Information Systems
Advancements in technology have made new data analysis and problem solving techniques possible. One such
technique is Geographical Information Systems (GIS) technology. GIS is changing the way information is stored
and decisions are made. The U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration (ETA) has
identified the geospatial technology industry as a high growth industry.
GIS techniques are being used in
business analysis, homeland security, road construction, natural resource planning and many other applications.
GIS ranges in complexity from simply tracking of customer locations to modeling possible hazardous chemical
spills. Joliet Junior College has assembled several seminars that are designed to introduce participants to
this new and exciting technology. The classes are presented in a computer lab setting to provide the student
with hands-on experience.
Introduction to Basic GIS (GRAF 1014)
This four week workshop will introduce the basic tools and concepts associated with GIS usage and application.
The ArcGIS software extension, ArcView, is used to display spatial and tabular data. Basic analysis techniques,
presentation methods, and data management issues will be discussed. Topics include GIS theory, data acquisition,
data editing, labeling, and notation.
Advanced Techniques of GIS (GRAF 1015)
Learn the more sophisticated functions of ArcView such as geo-coding addresses, map annotation, and data
conversion. The seminar emphasizes raster data (grid or image data). Students will learn to solve problems
through raster manipulation. Topics include modeling problems, geo-referencing, and spatial analysis using
raster and vector data.
Microsoft Access
Microsoft Access is a database management system that distributes information among related tables and
provides powerful tools for retrieving specific subsets of that information as required. Access offers a
flexible means for displaying, summarizing, and analyzing the data stored in the tables.

Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Excel is an electronic spreadsheet program that allows you to produce professional looking documents that
perform numeric calculations rapidly and accurately. Since changes in data result in automatic recalculation,
Excel is a powerful decision making tool when using the "what if" analysis technique. Training is offered in
three competency levels.
Excel Level One (COMP 250 or 1DAY 251)

This seminar provides a case-based, problem solving approach to the basics of project management.
Utilize Microsoft Project to document the various aspects of the sample project that runs through all the tutorials.
Learn to organize a project, track its progress, and make revisions. Topics include creating a project schedule,
assigning resources and costs, and communicating project information. Be able to control project resources from its
inception to its conclusion. Class is held in a computer lab.

Quickbooks Professional (COMP 2400)
Quickbooks is an accounting program designed for small business. Be able to monitor all you company’s finances
including accounts payable and receivable, invoicing, and payroll. Learn to automate transactions, create budgets,
and generate reports. The program is suited for a service or a product based company. Topics include setting up a
company, chart of accounts, vendor lists, and bank accounts. Generate sales receipts, credit memos, checks,
and invoices. Be able to record deposits, enter bills and make payments, process payroll, protect and back up data.
Class is held in a computer lab.
