Basic Spanish (MGT 7058)
Expand your language skills or grasp the basics of Spanish through conversation and listening. Discuss the basic pronunciation of vowels and consonants in Spanish. Learn vocabulary, sentence structure, and how to ask and answer basic questions. This course is designed for the student with no previous knowledge of Spanish. This non-credit seminar meets one night a week for ten weeks.

Spanish for the Business Professional (MGT 7063)
Participants will learn the alphabet, letter sounds, and names, numbers, how to tell time, and basic information. This is an excellent introductory course to Spanish for non-speakers. Workplace Spanish for the workplace is included. Be advised this is a fun seminar for individuals who want to enjoy learning Spanish. This non-credit seminar meets one night a week for ten weeks.

Spanish for Health Care Workers (MGT 7059)
This seminar will help you communicate with patients who speak Spanish. Concentrate on words and phrases that you can use on the job. Use common healthcare situations such as patient registration, explaining laboratory procedures and performing treatments as role play situations to increase you vocabulary. Learn to convey comfort and concern for your patients with a few carefully selected phrases. This class would be useful to doctors, nurses, medial assistants, hospital administration, and front desk personnel. This non-credit seminar meets one night a week for ten weeks.

Spanish Review (MGT 7060)
The old saying 'Use it or lose it' rings especially true when it is applied to a foreign language. This seminar is designed for someone who has taken Spanish in high school or college in the past and would like to sharpen those skills. If you 'picked up' a practical knowledge of the Spanish through work or family connections, this class will also help you expand on that base. Emphasis will be placed on pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar. Increase your conversational skills and understanding. This non-credit seminar meets one night a week for six weeks.

Spanish for Travelers (LLC 384)
Planning for a trip south of the border? You will be able to vacation in Spanish speaking countries confidently and comfortably by acquiring key words and useful phrases. Gain a better understanding of common things such as restaurant menu, hiring a taxi cab, dealing with a hotel desk clerk. Learn to ask about prices or ask for basic directions. This non-credit seminar meets one night a week for six weeks.

Practical Spanish for the Classroom (MGT 7061)
This program is targeted for teachers, school administrators, library staff, and child care professionals who are seeking to expand their Spanish language skills. Improve the communication with your Spanish speaking students by learning key words and phrases that apply to an educational setting. Work out difficult pronunciations and accents. Learn how to communicate approval and disapproval with a varying degree of emphasis. Gain insight into the Latin American culture. Class materials including a CD for practicing at home are included. Attendees to this non-credit class earn CPCU's. The class is usually held in June. It meets every weekday morning from 8:00am to noon for a two week period.

Spanish Interpreter Certification Training

The Spanish Interpreter Certification Program prepares Spanish bilingual speakers to enter the field of oral interpretation. The program consists of four sections, two covering the healthcare industry, one dealing with the field of education and the last section details interpretation in the legal setting. Each section takes one semester to complete. Each section consists of 50 hours of classroom instruction and an additional 10 hours of clinical work experience. Program participants will learn interpretation techniques that will enable them to work in an educational, legal or healthcare environment. The majority of the classroom instruction is conducted in Spanish.

Training includes oral interpretation exercises, role playing, small group work, vocabulary study, Spanish/English grammar review, presentations, memory enhancing exercises, and a clinical presentation. The sessions are independent of the other, so a student may enroll at the start of any module. All new students will be required to successfully complete an assessment test at the first meeting of their initial class. Class materials are not included in the class fee.

Certified Spanish Interpreter-Healthcare I (MGT 3770)
This section of the Certified Spanish Interpreter program highlights interpretation in the healthcare industry. This training introduces basic concepts of the human body, its functions and common aliments (pathology) and nomenclature (both in English and Spanish). Topics include: interpretation in a medical setting, the skeletal system, muscular system, digestive system, cardio-vascular system, respiratory system, nervous system, and hospital procedures. Note: Each section is self-contained and independent of the other. Students may start the interpretation program by enrolling in any section. Class materials are not included in the class fee.

Certified Spanish Interpreter–Healthcare II (MGT 3780)
This section of the Certified Spanish Interpreter program highlights interpretation in the healthcare industry. Oral interpretation, strategies, medical terminology (English/Spanish), and techniques are covered through-out the training. Topics include: the endocrine system, skin, hair and nails (tegumentary system), lymph and immunity system, urinary system, reproductive system, the life cycle, and hospital procedures. Note: Each section is self-contained and independent of the other. Students may start the interpretation program by enrolling in any section. Class materials are not included in the class fee.

Certified Spanish Interpreter-Education (MGT 3750)
This section of the Certified Spanish Interpreter program emphasizes interpretation in an educational environment. Learn to be an interpreter in a P-12 school setting. Topics include school and facility vocabulary and educational terminology. Gain experience by role playing in situations such as parent-teacher conferences, disciplinary actions, and registration assistance. Real estate terminology comprises the last eight hours of training. Note: Each section is self-contained and independent of the other. Students may start the interpretation program by enrolling in any section. Class materials are not included in the class fee.

Certified Spanish Interpreter-Legal Setting (MGT 3760)
This section of the Certified Spanish Interpreter program emphasizes interpretation techniques that are used in a legal setting. The program includes vocabulary, legal terminology, interpretation techniques, court room diplomacy, and practice sessions. Discuss possible interpretation situations that can be applied in a court of law, between an attorney and a client, or acting as a private Certified Spanish Interpreter (C.S.I). Note: Each section is self-contained and independent of the other. Students may start the interpretation program by enrolling in any section. Class materials are not included in the class fee.
