Industry Employment Outlook
According the Bureau of Labor Statistics, healthcare,
social assistance, and the business sector are not just expected to grow, they are
expected to grow twice the average for all industries.
"Our plans for the future
include a greater focus on these growth areas," said Amy Murphy, director of Corporate
and Community Services for Joliet Junior College. "For example, within the past
year, we have added a course in sleep therapy in anticipation of the growing need
for technicians in this field."
Additionally, the college is adding more classes
in business writing, Frontline supervision, and computer skills for such industries
as retail and social services. "We are also in the process of repurposing many of
these courses for online instruction," said Murphy. "Many companies are interested
in using an online mode of training as a way to minimize cost and productivity losses."
