Manufacturing Productivity Continues to Grow
Manufacturing productivity grew faster
in the third quarter than in the previous quarter, according to the Bureau of Labor
Statistics. Overall productivity is higher in both the business and non-farm sectors
than preliminary estimates published on November 7, resulting in a growth of 5.7
percent in both sectors with a 1.0 percent decline in hours for business and 0.6
percent decline in hours for non-farm.
Manufacturing productivity increases for
the third quarter are:
5.0 percent in manufacturing
6.1 percent in durable goods
manufacturing
4.3 percent in non-durable goods manufacturing
Productivity data reported
on December 5 measures output per hour of all persons for the third quarter of 2007.
The seasonally adjusted annual rates of productivity growth in the third quarter
are:
6.7 percent in the business sector
6.3 percent in the non-farm sector
