Are men experiencing a recession?

According to the latest household survey conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, men 20 and older have lost 700,000 jobs between last November and April. This is in sharp contrast to women 20 and older who gained 300,000 jobs.

"The economy has been hurting many industries - particularly manufacturing and construction," said Amy Murphy, director of Corporate and Community Services for Joliet Junior College. "Those industries are traditionally dominated by men and probably account for the job losses."

Other industries, such as health care and education are expanding even in this economy and women filled most of the new jobs created.
