Seventeen People Complete Frontline Training at Potlatch
The Potlatch Corporation in Elwood, Illinois graduated 17 people from Joliet Junior
College's Frontline training program on June 18. Six people completed all five of
the Frontline modules and 11 completed four.
In the fall of 2007, Chuck Olson and Chris Rice of Potlatch contacted the college
to schedule on-site training for a number of workers who exhibited leadership ability.
Many of them have been promoted to lead positions.
The Potlatch plant in Elwood produces toilet paper, paper towels, and other paper
products for distribution at retail outlets throughout the Midwest. It is a three-shift,
seven-day-a-week operation.
"Many of the participants in Frontline are making excellent progress in their careers,"
said Bruce Kuzmanich, contract training manager for Joliet Junior College's Corporate
Services division. A few have already been promoted to lead positions."
The Frontline program is built on five modules. Each one focuses on a specific area
of supervision. There is a module for First-Line Supervision, Effective Communication,
Building Teams, Quality and Productivity, Employment Law, and Safety and Labor
Relations. Companies or individuals can enroll in any or all of them.
