Amy Murphy, Joliet Junior College's director of Corporate and Community Services, was among the 22 area business owners and executives named "Influential Women in Business" for 2010 by The Business Ledger.
It is the 13th "class" of women to be recognized by The Business Ledger and its partner in the event, the National Association of Women Business Owners, Chicago Area Chapter, since the program's inception in 1998.
Murphy was nominated for this award by Matt Mirro, ISO/Shift Supervisor for Oxbow Midwest Calcining in Lemont, Illinois. As part of the management team with Oxbow, Mirro was responsible for employee training and development. In that capacity, he has worked closely with Murphy to deliver a variety of training programs for his company.
"I would like to stress that Amy, no matter how busy, would always give us personalized service with her warm sense of humor," said Mirro. "Other companies feel the same way and consistently give the same feedback. I personally feel Amy is the perfect recipient of this award."
Murphy's achievements include her work with hundreds of area businesses including ExxonMobil, Stepan, Lucent, Lyondell-Bassell, Argonne Laboratories, Abbott Laboratories, and many more. She is also an active member of the planning team for Seniors in Motion which includes park districts in Plainfield, Channahon, Shorewood, Lemont, and Lockport. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the prestigious "Professional of the Year Award" from the Illinois Community College Economic/Workforce Development Association (ICCEDA) for her contributions to the promotion of community college education in Illinois.
The honorees were presented their awards at a celebration on Thursday, November 4 at the Danada House in Wheaton.
