Medical Coding and Billing Online Training (MGT 893)

Joliet Junior College partners with Career Step LLC to offer this on-line course. This program will provide students with the skills necessary to obtain entry-level employment as medical coders, coding specialists, and medical billing specialists. The Career Step Medical Billing and Coding online training program consists of 19 modules. Start by learning the basics of medical terminology. Be familiar with the documentation, confidentiality and ethics requirements within the healthcare environment and medical record content. Begin coding with ICD-9 and progress to CPT coding. Practice skill building with actual patient medical records. Graduates of this course are prepared to take the Certified Coding Assistant (CCA) sponsored by the American Health Information Association or the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) sponsored by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Healthcare Bridge Certificate Program
This program is designed for individuals seeking an entry-level career in the healthcare field. Participants learn the theories behind human behavior, medical terminology, the Spanish language, basic computer skills, compliance issues, and job readiness skills. This fast-track training program is 15-17 weeks in duration.
Pharmacy Technician Online Training (MGT 830)

Joliet Junior College partners with Career Step LLC to offer this on-line course. This program will prepare the student to obtain employment as a pharmacy technician in a variety of pharmaceutical settings while under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Some of the areas covered are: pharmacy law and ethics, drug inventory and storage, abbreviations, pharmaceutical calculations, label preparation, anatomy and physiology, insurance procedures, basic chemistry of drug molecules, and customer service skills. Graduates are prepared to sit for the national certification examination, which is administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Personal Trainer Certification (MGT 858)

Take advantage of this unique program to become certified in the expanding fitness industry. This challenging course meets for six Sundays. The morning lectures are dedicated to such topics as anatomy, exercise physiology, fitness testing, equipment usage, nutrition, and health assessment. The afternoon sessions take place at the Hometown Fitness in Plainfield where students learn "hands on" techniques and approaches that prepares the student to work with clients. On the sixth week of class, students will take the Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) national certification exam. Joliet Junior College has partnered with the World Instructor Training Schools (WITS) in offering this program. To order the text book, go to www.witseducation.com . Medical Transcription (MGT 894)

Joliet Junior College partners with Career Step LLC to offer this online course. A medical transcriptionist listens to dictated recordings made by physicians and other healthcare professionals and transcribes them to create medical reports that eventually become part of patients' permanent files. The Career Step Medical Transcription online training program consists of 21 modules.
Start by learning basic keyboarding techniques, grammar, punctuation, and how technology is utilized in the healthcare environment. Discuss medical terminology including medical word building, anatomy, disease, and pharmacology. Move on to building medical records and diagnostic reports. Improve your editing skills by proofreading and reviewing problem areas. Begin transcribing by listening to authentic clinic note dictation and acute care dictation files. Gain a working understanding of speech recognition technology. Enhance your productivity with valuable tips. Graduates of this course are prepared to take the Registered Medical Transcriptionist (RMT) sponsored by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI). Sleep Laboratory Technician Training
Polysomnography is the study of an individual's sleep. Millions of Americans suffer from sleep disorders. Over 80 types of sleep disorders are recognized by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). Diagnosis may require an overnight stay in a sleep disorder clinic while being monitored by a polysomnography technician ("sleep technician"). The sleep technician applies sensors to the patient's scalp, face, neck, legs and body and monitors their physiologic parameters of sleep. Growth in the number of sleep laboratories supports an increasing demand for trained professionals. From three accredited labs in 1975, this industry has grown to 990 AASM accredited labs in 2006.
Fundamentals in Polysomnography (MGT 440)

The program is designed to provide a solid foundation for the sleep technician. Whether new to the field or arriving with experience, the tools gained from this program will help to cultivate an understanding and appreciation for the importance of sleep data collection and analysis process. Develop the skills to collect a quality sleep study with an introduction to polysomnography scoring procedures. Topics include abnormal sleep patterns, collecting an EEG signal, sleep staging, respiratory events, and medications.

CPT Coding for Ambulatory Surgery and Outpatient Procedures (MREC 420) - View course dates and times
Participants learn to accurately and completely code ambulatory surgery and outpatient procedures to meet the information needs of health care facilities or providers and third-party payers. Experience with CPT coding is preferred.
