JJC Training Program Awarded $135,000 Grant
Joliet Junior College's Corporate and Community Services (CCS) recently was awarded
a $135,000 workforce training grant to be used to upgrade the skills of employees
in the region.
Awarded through the Employer Training Investment Program, which is part of the Illinois
Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, the grant money will be used to
keep workers' skills in pace with new technologies and business practices.
The Employer Training Investment Program is part of a 21st Century Jobs Training
Initiative, which reimburses companies and organizations for up to 50 percent of
the costs of training workers.
Amy Murphy, JJC director of corporate and community services, said the ultimate
goal is to expand training dollars to keep workers and businesses in the state.
Over 40 businesses are already involved, she added.
JJC/CCS's provides professional and technical training services for employers. The
employers who participated in the grant program were Akzo Nobel LLC, Alcan Packaging
Inc., Altivity in Carol Morris, Altivity in Morris, Bridgeview Aerosol, Chicago
Carbon Company, Citgo Petroleum Corporation, Corn Products, Crane Composites, Croda
Uniqema, Enerfab, ExxonMobil Corporation, Gerdau Ameristeel, Gus Berthold Electric
Company, INEOS Americas LLC, John Mansville, Lyondell, MCL Incorporate, Pelron Industries,
Pepperidge Farms, Phelps Dodge, Pollmann North America, Potlatch Corporation, Reichhold
Chemicals, Rexnord Industries, SAPA Industrial Extrusions, Starcon, Stepan Company,
Toyal America Inc., Whiting Corporation.
